Our story didn’t start in a boardroom. It started in the heart of the Midwest, where we saw a clear need: communities full of ambition, yet underserved by traditional finance. Our founding was a simple, direct response to build a strong, lasting microfinance presence here. How We Started Hofokam
1994
Village Banking program
Hofokam is one of the oldest and largest micro finance Institutions, serving the rural poor in Western Uganda and has a history that spans ten years, beginning with the Village Banking program that begun in Hoima Diocese in 1994
2003
Hofokam Founded
The Institution was founded in March 2003 through the merger of three Diocesan microfinance (MF) Programs and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee.
2012
Private Company
In February 2012, Hofokam evolved into a private company limited by shares. Hofokam is presently owned by the three Catholic Dioceses of Hoima, Fort Portal and Kasese in Western
